Primary Author Biography

Dr. Jim De Young was a professor of Theatre and Director of the Theatre program at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, USA for almost forty years. While there he directed and/or designed over 100 plays and taught courses ranging from Introduction to Theatre and Stage Directing to Theatre History and Dramatic Literature. Two of his many visits to England involved long term stays in which he directed and taught in the Associated Colleges of the Midwest’s Arts of London and Florence program. The material in his book was primarily developed to assist students in understanding the history and development of theatre in and around the city of London.
